Chaque gouvernement essaye, tant bien que Nnennahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09265760866575072421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851922323603959385.post-77706077266972393842017-09-14T09:35:00.000+00:002017-09-14T12:31:03.515+00:00There has to be an alternative to Violence
I should have at least four videos to this blog.
The first would be the video of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. People who are being disenfranchised, dispossessed of all belongings and driven from their own lands. Entire families being killed, tortured or rendered homeless. Thousands being forced to become refugees. Last week was a difficult one for businesses and citizens in Togo. For five consecutive days, there was an Internet shutdown across the whole country. First it was the mobile data, then SMS services followed. I am still trying to decide which made me angriest:
That one family will rule a country for 50 years and want to perpetuate this "democracy"
That a government will opt Nnennahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09265760866575072421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851922323603959385.post-45758679274779044892017-09-01T18:07:00.003+00:002017-09-01T18:19:20.522+00:00Uhuru? Not yet. Not, yet.

There is something
about Patrice Talon that catches and holds one's attention. He
seems to be resolute about running his country in a different way.
He is in his first few hours of Presidency and I just want to reflect
on what appears
First off,
appearances may be deceptive. Most often, they are. So I wont be
surprised if they turn out to be deceptive in a few years time.

Over the weekend I attended
a very high level event. It was in honour of two accomplished women
of African origin. Great food, good music and great styles. I
thoroughly enjoyed myself and I think others did too. I noticed,
however, that in this “high-level” circle, there is new type
of “The African Woman”. Not entirely new, but increasing in

I woke up in Abidjan this morning. A few hours before the voting for the first round of presidential elections in Côte d'Ivoire opens. At this time, polls should be underway in Tanzania, since there is a three-hour difference. In Brazzaville, and across Congo, the population has been convened to a referendum, whose results will determine whether Sassou Nguesso will continue to be PresidentNnennahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09265760866575072421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851922323603959385.post-68114173558138806742015-04-02T07:33:00.000+00:002015-04-02T07:36:03.860+00:00Easter 2015 - Resurrection Nigeria
Two nights in a row I kept vigil in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. My mind was on Nigeria and Nigeria was on my mind; - the election results of the Presidential race. I was not the only one whose heart was beating a tad faster. Last night I finally slept. And a sweet one, it was. Here are my 5 "take-aways" from the presidential elections.

2015 is here. Happy New Year. The year is kicking off with issues that I consider “fundamental” for African development. The first is human rights, the second is governance and the third is elections. I am still reflecting, thinking out loud.

We ask that question right until the

stadia, hotel capacity, roads, airports, etc. We double-check lists:

It was a very impressive month of May for me this year. I followed the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity, now African Union. The round tables, the semi-circles and the plenaries. Most of the debates are decades old and the same questions that were asked 50 years ago are still on the table. They have aged but are still alive.
